Lechner Racing takes first victory of the Supercup season at Silverstone
After a strong qualifying on saturday under challenging conditions with a couple of rain phases former Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East Champion Clemens Schmid (Austria) was able to secure Pole Position for the race in Silverstone.
With a gap of 0:01.309 to Connor de Phillippi (USA), who qualified on P2, Schmid put together a perfect lap on the last seconds of the session.
Following this strong performance Schmid went on to take a start to finish victory on the race on sunday, fending of the attacks of the current Championship leader Kuba Giermaziak (Poland) for the whole 13 laps.
'Fantastic job - that was a really pleasant surprise. Clemens showed a flawless performance, both in the Qualifying and today during the race. This victory means a lot to me and my team: to celebrate a victory in the motherland of motorsports with an Austrian driver that we trained in the Walter Lechner Racing Academy is of special significance - the hard work paid off,' Team Principal Walter Lechner summarized the weekend.
After the double-victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany at Norisring of Michael Ammermüller and the Supercup win at Silverstone Lechner Racing now hopes to take the momentum of three race wins in two weeks to the upcoming race event.
The next round of the Porsche Supercup will be from 18 - 20 July at Hockenheimring, Germany.
