Before the start of the Porsche Supercup season 2013 with round 1 during the Formula 1 Gran Premio de España in may all teams met at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona on April 8 & 9 for the first official test of the brand new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup type 991.
How close the season can be expected to be shows that the gap between position 1 and 14 is less than one second.
Before the second official test in about two weeks in Monza, Italy team principal Walter Lechner said: ‘The test in Barcelona was very important for the drivers to get a feeling of the car. Still, there are quite some things that we as a team need to figure out. We are now getting ready for the Monza test and hope to get further insights on the car to be well prepared for the first round in May.’ Asked about his predictions for the new season he added: ‘After only one test opportunity it is really hard to give predictions. For every driver the situation is quite difficult right now as they first have to adapt to the new car. When I look at the timings over the sessions I guess we can expect a close and hard-fought season.’
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will have its first round on 10 May 2013 at the Circuit de Catalunya.
