AlFaisal eyes hat-trick of wins in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East
Saudi Falcons Abdulaziz AlFaisal is aiming for a hat-trick of wins and extend his lead in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East standings in Rounds 5 and 6 at the Dubai Autodrome on the 13th and 14th December.
The reigning champion produced two faultless displays in Rounds 3 and 4 at the Yas Marina despite pressure from Al Nabooda duo of Karim Al-Azhari and Clemens Schmid to go top of the championship standings with a 12 points lead.
AlFaisal may not win the championship at the half-way stage, but two more wins over the weekend will go a long way towards him retaining his crown.
Speaking after recording a time of 2:03.259 minutes in the qualifying session for Round 5 and starting second on the grid at the Dubai Autodrome, Al Faisal said: "We have a strong base at the moment, and the momentum is with us. With the winter break approaching, we need to go into the Saudi rounds with a comfortable lead, and then we can slowly start thinking about the championship."
"I expect the Al Nabooda Racing duo to come out fighting this weekend, as they have two fantastic drivers in Schmid and Al-Azhari. They will continue to be threat throughout the season. And do not discount young Zaid; he is not too far off the top three," added AlFaisal.
Team mate Faisal Binladen, who will start seventh on the grid after a time of 2:04.809 minutes is looking to fair better than he did at the Yas Marina, and collect some valuable points individually and team honours before the winter break.
The Saudi Falcons will be looking to overhaul Al Nabooda Racing in the Team Title standings. They are currently seven points behind the Dubai-based outfit.
Binladen said: "The conditions have been slightly tricky at the Autodrome, but I want to improve on my performance from the Yas Marina. I need to help AlFaisal collect maximum points this weekend and push the Saudi Falcons to the top of the table in the Team title category."
