Dubai Autodrome next stop for Round 2 in leading regional series
Former Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East champion Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa is set to make a spectacular return to the region’s most exciting and professional series in Round 2 at the Dubai Autodrome on 12th and 13th December.
The 2011 winner will make his first appearance since the opening weekend of last season to assist Team Bahrain team-mate Mohammed Mattar in their quest for team honours in the UAE. It will also be his first experience in the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
On his return to the series, Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa said: “It is great to be back for this weekend and compete against the region’s best drivers. The new Porsche GT3 drives fantastic and the adrenaline is flowing again. Being on a track in a Porsche is a special feeling.”
“In Mohammed Matter I have a very talented team-mate who has been doing our nation proud. I hope with my support we can claim valuable team points. I had a good practice session today and I am confident of getting a good position on the grid for race 1 and challenging for the podium,” added Al Khalifa
A world-class grid featuring 18 cars and drivers spanning eleven nations, including UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will face a challenging track in the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The Dubai Autodrome has a combination of high-speed straights and technical corners covering 4.3287 KM.
Al Khalifa will look to replicate the form shown by last year’s Silver Michelin category runner-up Mattar in the opening weekend of the season, as he finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Following practice at the Dubai Autodrome, Mattar said: “At the Autodrome you can get good timings as the circuit has ideal straights and fast corners. With minor adjustments in my set-up, I am in a good position to get a good time in today’s qualifying and also in race 1.”
